Advice Needed for Pantyhose

June 4th, 2007 at 12:01 am

I realize that this must sound really weird, but what do you do to reuse or make of use of, pantyhose that you can no longer wear because of runners?

I was never a big fan of pantyhose. I wore stockings for years. Lack of time and finding stockings, I finally went over to the other side and started wearing pantyhose. When one leg got a runner, I cut off the other leg and wore two cut off legs together. It works and gives you really great butt support.

I have hundreds of pairs. The only use I am aware of is using a ruined pair while camping. You put a bar of soap in the toe and tie it off. That way you can hang the soap and dip it in boiling water to use to soap cast iron, etc.

I do not want to fill our landfills with more junk. Does anyone have any ideas for the nylons? Yes, I know this is a silly question. But,......someone must have a great idea. Thanks

you can store onions in them. Put one onion in, tie a knot, put in another, tie another knot and so on. Then hang up the whole thing and just cut off an onion as needed. This also works for storing flower bulbs over the winter.

Cut them into strips and use them to tie up plants.

Bring out the shine in your freshly polished shoes by buffing them with a medium-length strip of pantyhose. It works so well, you may retire that chamois cloth for good.

Keep your used rolls of wrapping paper from tearing and unraveling by storing them in tubes made by cutting the leg sections off old pairs of pantyhose. (Don't forget to leave the foot section intact.) Or, if you have a bunch of used rolls, you can simply put one in each leg of a pair of pantyhose and hang them over a hanger in your closet.

Why buy a scrunchy for your ponytail when you can easily make one for nothing? Just cut a horizontal strip about 3-inches wide across a pantyhose leg, wrap it a few times around your ponytail, and you're done.

I'm new to gardening and have learned that they are great for tying up tomato plants. If you don't garden yourself, perhaps you could offer them to someone in your community through Freecycle?

Those are awesome ideas! Thank you so much! Oh! Almost forgot, our 13 and 14 year sons do not like you. I showed them the advice and told them when they don't get their chores done, they get to shine Dad's shoes with Mom's old panty hose as punishment!! Kudos to you!!
